The Institute for Ethics in Public Life invites members of the campus
community to view Birth Time: the Documentary, the final event in a
virtual, day-long international gathering of scholars, health experts and
policy-makers speaking on the theme of women’s reproductive health and
rights.
Birth Time: the Documentary draws our attention to what some consider to be
risky medical procedures in the birth process. These same procedures have
of course saved the lives of numerous women and newborns when medical
problems have arisen. However, when used merely for convenience, scheduling
or profit, they raise a number of ethical questions and can possibly cause
harm.
The screening will immediately be followed by a brief presentation and
colloquy led by Gloria Bobbie, a member of the SUNY Plattsburgh
anthropology faculty and organizer of the conference. Ethics Institute
director Dr. Jonathan Slater will moderate the colloquy, which will include
a panel of faculty and students exploring reproductive justice issues
affecting women around the globe.
The film screening and colloquy are free of charge and open to all members
of the SUNY Plattsburgh community.
For further information, contact Dr. Jonathan Slater, director of the
Institute for Ethics in Public Life at slaterjr at plattsburgh.edu.
The Institute for Ethics in Public Life is a program of SUNY Plattsburgh
with additional support made possible through generous gifts to the
Plattsburgh College Foundation.
