Critical Issues Forum

Monday, September 27th at 6:00 P.M. in Yokum 205

On September 1, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed Texas’ new near-total
abortion ban go into effect. It did so on what has been termed its “shadow
docket.” What is the “shadow docket?" How is the “shadow docket” different
than the way the Supreme Court usually decides cases? Should we be
concerned about it? What exactly did the Supreme Court decide in the Texas
case? What other constitutional rights have been decided on the “shadow
docket”? This Critical Issues Forum will answer these and other questions
about the Supreme Court’s controversial, increasingly frequent, and—some
say dangerous—way of deciding hugely consequential cases.

This event is sponsored by the Honors Program, the History Department, and
the Political Science Department.
