Live captions make your meeting accessible to individuals who are deaf or
hard-of-hearing. They also can make your meeting more engaging and
inclusive. And, with the current proliferation of Zoom meetings on campus,
now is the perfect time to maximize the impact of our virtual events.
Live captions improve flexibility for attendees. If they are on the move,
multitasking, or in a noisy place where they can’t hear audio, attendees
can remain in the conversation. Similarly, attendees who are in a quiet
place where they can’t turn on their sound can use live captions to stay
engaged.
For persons who can’t attend a Zoom meeting or can attend for just a
portion of the event, live captions can be used to create a full transcript
of the meeting content, to be downloaded and referenced after the meeting.
Live captions also have been found to improve the comprehension of video
content for both hearing and deaf attendees. Zoom reports that "numerous
studies show a positive learning response to captions among students."
