fraudulent job postings

Please be aware that there are fraudulent job postings and emails
circulating. We work hard to make sure the employers who post openings in
Handshake are legitimate. But sometimes scammers figure out how to email
students directly. If you receive an email that you suspect is fraudulent,
please delete it immediately and do NOT correspond with the sender.
Here are some signs to watch for:
· Is the job description overly generic? For example, lots of
administrative work but no details about what industry the job is in, and
no specific skills are required?
· Does the hourly or weekly pay seem too high, for work that
requires generic skills?
· Are you being asked to cash checks, and/or deposit them?
· The job came to you. Are you being contacted about a position that
you didn’t apply for? Legitimate employers in Handshake only have access to
your public profile AFTER you have applied to their job posting, accepted
an interview request, or RSVP’d to an event.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions about a
job offer or posting that concerns you.
