National Hazing Prevention Week

National Hazing Prevention Week, sponsored by the Interfraternity Council,
Inter-Sorority Association and Fraternity & Sorority Life, will be held
from September 20 - 25. We would like to remind everyone that hazing can be
reported by faculty, staff, students, family/friends, or community members
to to University Police at (518) 564-2022, to the Hazing Hotline at (518)
564-5555 or to the silent witness onlin report form at

*Love, Mom and Dad: Turning Tragedy into Progress*

Join families who have suffered unimaginable loss as a result of hazing as
they share their stories and challenge students to take up the fight to end
hazing.

*Monday, September 21 *
*#wearpurple if You Are a Member of a Non-Hazing Organization*
Wear purple (the color of HazingPrevention.Org) and take a photo and write
a brief statement about why you care about hazing prevention efforts or why
you are proud to be a member of a non-hazing organization. Send the photo
and statement to greeklife at plattsburgh.edu and we will share on social
media throughout the week.

*Tuesday, September 22, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - ACC Lobby*
*Take the Anti-Hazing Pledge*
Stop by the table in the ACC Lobby to get a free anti-hazing button and to
take the anti-hazing pledge. Not going to be on campus? No problem! You can

discussion about how to build a powerful, non-hazing new member experience.

*Thursday, September 24*
*Don't Be a Bystander*
Visit the Fraternity & Sorority Life at SUNY Plattsburgh Facebook, Twitter
and Instagram pages for information on bystander intervention and what you
can do to stop hazing. Please share our posts on your own social media
pages.

*Friday, September 25*
*Virtual Candlelight Vigil in memory of Walter Dean Jennings III and
Other Victims of Violence*
Visit the memorial to Dean Jennings, a freshman who was killed by hazing in
an unrecognized former fraternity at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2013, located
outside of Hood Hall. Flowers and electric candles will be placed beside
the memorial. In addition, see our Facebook page next week for an image you
can use for your social media profile picture for that day indicating your
support of victims of violence.
