As the weather begins to get cold, it is important to provide all students
and employees critical information about campus operations. Students,
faculty and staff are advised that severe weather conditions may not lead
to the cancellation of classes, but everyone traveling to campus should
travel with caution and care.

Decisions to cancel or delay classes will be made as early as possible,
preferably before 6 a.m. of the morning of a significant weather event, to
enable timely notification to students and employees. When classes are
cancelled, notification to the campus and local media will be as timely as
possible as well.

Faculty, staff and students will be able to learn of changes in the status
of classes through the following channels:

   1.

An emergency/critical email announcement will be sent to the campus
   community.
   2.

Calling the SNOW Line (518-564-7669) for the status of campus activities.
   3.

   An announcement on www.plattsburgh.edu.
   4.

   Local television stations.
   5.

Posters on entry doors of residence halls announcing the cancellation of
   classes due to inclement weather.

Only the Governor has the authority to close State offices or facilities.
Unless the Governor issues a specific order directing non‐essential
employees at SUNY Plattsburgh not to report to work, employees who do not
report to work because of extraordinary circumstances must charge leave
credits other than sick leave. A declaration of a state of emergency by the
Governor does not by itself close State offices and facilities. If State
offices were to close in such a situation, the closure would result from a
separate action by the Governor.

Supervisors are reminded to inform their staff if they are considered
essential personnel based on the events on campus and the type of situation
being encountered.
