*Jesse Pruden ’19, *Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, Crop
Residue Burning

*Following the Smoke: From Wildland Firefighting to Research and Air
Quality Management*


In this seminar, Jesse will share her path from studying general ecology at
SUNY Plattsburgh through six seasons in wildland fire, graduate research,
and her current role managing Idaho’s Crop Residue Burning Program. She
will highlight the development of a field-based slide-rule tool designed to
translate complex smoke-dispersion criteria into practical guidance for
agricultural burners. Along the way, she will explore the opportunities,
challenges, and unexpected turns involved in building a career at the
intersection of fire ecology and public service.
