The CEES Seminar Series presents:

*Modeling soil and ecosystem processes improves representation of soil
carbon response to regenerative agricultural practices*


Carbon farming practices aim to restore soil carbon, thus contributing to
efforts that slow global climate change. To evaluate these practices,
predictive models must represent the relevant soil and ecosystem processes
that account for soil carbon accumulation in regenerative agricultural
systems. In this talk, I will describe advancements in model process
representation that improved soil carbon estimates in two biogeochemical
models: a microbial model of soil carbon developed for use in bioenergy
agriculture, and a process based model modified to better represent grazing
dynamics in a large scale carbon project. The improvements to the
predictive abilities of these models support improved land management,
climate mitigation, and better scientific understanding of soil carbon
outcomes under carbon farming practices.
