Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir Alumni Return to Campus to Help Celebrate
the 35th Year “Coral” Anniversary of the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir.

Dozens of SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir alumni, will join SUNY
Plattsburgh’s Gospel Choir for its “Coral” Anniversary Celebration at this
year’s GospelFest on Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz
Auditorium. The concert is part of a three-day event that marks the choir’s
35th anniversary and, according to its artistic director, Dr. Dexter L.
Criss, promises “to be special as past members, musicians, and friends join
to celebrate their love for the choir, college, community, and gospel
music.”  The weekend kicks off with a Social Mixer on Friday, April 24,
beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Flynt Commons, Angell College Center. The
celebration continues with a Scholarship and Awards Banquet on Saturday,
April 25, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Adirondack Room at the Butcher
Block Steak House, hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh’s DEI/AA officer Michael
Thompson, with musical selections by the Gospel Choir’s Alumni Praise Team.
This is followed by the highly-anticipated GospelFEST 2026 slated for
Saturday evening, April 25, starting at 7:00 p.m. in Giltz Auditorium at
Hawkins Hall, hosted by Dr. Rosite George-Delgado ’05, featuring the Coral
Reunion Alumni Choir.  Kayin Queeley will lead the Coral Reunion Alumni
Steppers to some foot stomping-energetic stepping which promises to leave
the crowd breathless!  GospelFEST concert colors are any combination of
coral, black, and gold. Finally, the “Coral” Anniversary weekend concludes
with a delicious Farewell Gospel-Jazz Brunch on Sunday, April 26, at 10:00
a.m. at Valcour Inn and Boathouse, featuring a premier jazz trio called
“Two of a Kind + One” with Steve Collier on piano, Matt Dunne on bass, and
Mike Lewandowski on drums.

Traditional and Urban Gospel Sounds

Since 1991, SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir's unique harmonic fusion of
traditional gospel, urban gospel, contemporary Christian music, European
harmonies, blended with Caribbean and Afrocentric rhythms and overtones,
has entertained thousands locally, regionally, and yes, internationally.
The PSGC actively performs on campus, in the community, and throughout the
region, averaging 25 appearances each year. The choir sings at a variety of
settings including colleges, campus events, K-12 schools, churches,
memorial services, weddings, and other community events. In the past years,
it has performed in Burlington, Albany, New York City, Boston, Washington
D.C., Little Rock, Stuttgart, Chicago, Providence, Montreal, Toronto,
Ottawa, Tokyo, St. Maarten/St. Martin, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Additionally, the choir has collaborated with trumpeter Ray Vega, gospel
guru Darius Brooks, and clinicians such as Dr. Raymond Wise, Stan
Spottswood, Dr. Anthony Leach, Mario Vaughn (Chicago Mass) and Ron Rucker
of Japan among many others and has appeared on several TV shows including
the WORD Network and Mountain Lake PBS. It has shared the stage with Lyle
Lovett, Sheila Ray Charles, Myra Flynn, and The Kingdom Choir from London.
The PSGC is fresh off their North Carolina 2026 Spring Break Tour, where
they performed to large enthusiastic crowds in Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte,
and in Greensboro at the renowned International Civil Rights Center &
Museum, the historic site of the Woolworth's lunch counter sit-ins.
