Students who have a desire to do good and make a difference can get
hands-on experience and contribute to their community through paid public
service. Students selected for the Empire State Service Corps are matched
with a local non-profit or educational organization where they will
complete 300 hours of paid public service at $16 per hour over the course
of the 2026-27 academic year (about 10 hours per week). In addition,
students who are U.S. citizens will also be enrolled in the AmeriCorps
program and receive an additional $1,400 in educational awards at the end
of the year. Past Service Corps sites have included on-campus sites
(Cardinal Cupboard, Thrift Stop, Child Care Center, Title IX, etc.), as
well as off-campus sites (Momot Elementary, Ted K. Center, Salvation Army,
North Country Co-Op, Adult Day Health Center, United Way, Champlain Area
Trails, St. Joseph's Outreach Center, JCEO Head Start and more). For more
information or to apply, students can visit https://www.suny.edu/
student-experience/essc/ or contact Allison Swick-Duttine, Director of
Student Leadership, at swickan at plattsburgh.edu. Priority deadline for the
2026-27 cohort is Friday, April 17.

If you have community connections with organizations that may fall within
any of the following cohorts and that might be interested in applying to be
an Empire State Service Corps site for next year, please direct them to
https://www.suny.edu/student-experience/essc/ to apply. Six cohort areas
are available: civic engagement, education, economic opportunity, healthy
futures, environmental stewardship, veterans/military family outreach.
