Campus Community:

Although National Preparedness Month is designated for September, please
remember to continue your efforts in preparing for emergencies throughout
the entire year. Be sure to check your emergency kit(s) regularly and
replace any items that may expire. Try to assemble your emergency kit(s) in
small steps to help offset costs. Think about the dual uses of kit items.
For example, a poncho can be used for shelter or serve as an emergency
marker.

After preparing yourself and your family for possible emergencies (by
getting a kit, making a plan and being informed), take the next step and
get involved in preparing your community.

Volunteer with community organizations

   -

Get trained in CPR and Basic First Aid at your local American Red Cross
   <http://www.redcross.org/> Chapter.
   -

Find a volunteer opportunity with a Voluntary Organization Active in
   Disaster (VOAD) <http://www.nvoad.org/>.
   -

   Search for local volunteer opportunities
   <http://www.idealist.org/volunteermatch>.
   -

Get trained and volunteer with the Medical Reserve Corp
<https://aspr.hhs.gov/MRC/Pages/index.aspx>s to provide support during a
   public health emergency.
   -

Volunteer at and support local fire departments.

Teach others to be prepared

   -

Be an advocate and educator for safety and emergency preparedness
   within your community.

Being prepared for disasters is a shared responsibility. It takes the whole
community working together to effectively prepare for, respond to, and
recover from disasters and other emergencies.
