This year, Mahtem Shiferraw, will be joining us for Black Poetry Day -- for
the annual celebration of African-American poetry in honor of Jupiter
Hammon's birthday. Mahtem Shiferraw is the author of several poetry
collections including *Nomenclatures of Invisibility*; *Behind Walls and
Glass*; and *Your Body is War*.

Jupiter Hammon, a former enslaved New Yorker, was the first published
African-American poet in this country. Every year, we commemorate his
achievements by inviting poets to campus to share their poetry with the
campus and the Plattsburgh community. Please join us for this FREE
event at *Krinovitz
Hall on Thursday, October, 16th at 7:00 PM. *
