IT’S TODAY: Special Opportunity: “Trauma-informed Advising & Teaching”
Session

(Fri., May 2, 2-3pm on Zoom <https://plattsburgh.zoom.us/j/85145133451>)

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and Academic Advising Office host
special guest Dawn Bornheimer, VP Campus Partnerships, U-Thrive Educational
Services, Friday, May 2, 2-3pm (Q&A carrying on to 3:15, we’d love for you
to stay) on Zoom <https://plattsburgh.zoom.us/j/85145133451>.

In our presentation and dialogue, Dawn and Elizabeth will:

   -

Provide awareness of what trauma is, its prevalence, and the ways it
   shows up in our advisees, classrooms, office hours and student activities;
   -

Frame trauma experienced by students, in general, often as an obstacle
to their navigating university life and therefore a barrier to persistence
   and retention; and
   -

Describe some tangible actions that we as advisors, teachers, academic
and student affairs professionals (who do not treat trauma or counsel) can
do to shift from trauma-informed to trauma-sensitive in our daily
educational activities (even without ever discussing trauma directly).

We cite several authors who provide contemporary trauma insight to college
settings. As a trauma-sensitive campus takes everyone, all campus employees
are welcome to attend and participate. We hope you are curious, and your
Google calendar is still free so you can join us.

Elizabeth R. Bernat, Ph.D.
