Dear Campus Community,

Today, on the anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember a day
that profoundly impacted our nation and forever altered our world. It is a
time to honor the lives lost and recognize the bravery and resilience of
those who stood tall in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

The events of September 11 remind us of the enduring importance of
community, compassion, and unity—values that resonate deeply here at SUNY
Plattsburgh. Our commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive
environment for our diverse student body, where every student is valued and
empowered to reach their educational goals, continues to guide us.
Together, we strive to create a community where all Cardinals are seen,
supported, and truly belong.

In the aftermath of that tragic day, we witnessed an extraordinary spirit
of service and sacrifice—not only from first responders but from countless
individuals who came together to aid those in need. Today, we also honor
the service members who have made personal sacrifices to safeguard our
country and offer our deepest support to those who lost loved ones as a
result.

We especially remember Cardinal family members who were directly affected,
including alumni Robert Sutcliffe '84 and William J. Erwin '92, whose names
are inscribed on the 9/11 memorial plaque beside Hawkins Pond (adjacent to
Hudson Annex), and NYS Trooper Brian Falb ‘92, who passed in 2017 from his
role as a responder at the World Trade Center. The Office of Alumni
Relations has honored Trooper Falb by working with his family to establish
a memorial endowment in his name.

*I invite all members of our campus community to join in a moment of
silence this morning at 10:03 a.m. at the 9/11 memorial plaque*, as we
remember those we lost and reflect on the enduring legacy of this day.

As we continue to reflect, let us reaffirm our commitment to the greater
good—whether through acts of kindness, service to our community, or by
ensuring SUNY Plattsburgh remains a place where everyone feels valued,
heard, and supported.

Sincerely,
Alexander Enyedi
President, SUNY Plattsburgh
