September is National Emergency Preparedness Month

Campus Community:

It’s National Emergency Preparedness and Campus Fire Safety Month! Each
September, individuals are encouraged to take simple steps to improve fire
safety and to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and
communities.  Throughout the month, SUNY Plattsburgh's Office of Emergency
Management will provide you with tools and information on preparing for
emergencies and improving fire safety measures.

Begin preparing for emergencies by doing three things:

   1. *Be informed: *Know what disasters could affect your area, how to
   get emergency alerts, and where you would go if you and your family need to
   evacuate.
   2. *Plan ahead: *Make an action plan and build an emergency supplies kit.
   3. *Take action: *Get involved by taking steps to stay educated on
   different emergencies and their procedures.

Learn what emergencies could affect you and what actions to take if an
emergency does occur. Visit Ready America at www.ready.gov to learn more
and to download templates to help you create these plans.


*Save the Date: Campus Emergency Preparedness Day*

Date: Wednesday, September 25
Time: 11 AM – 2 PM
Location: Angell College Center and surrounding areas

Come participate in a range of activities designed to boost your emergency
preparedness skills. Experience a mock dorm room fire, get hands-on fire
extinguisher training, practice navigating a smoke-filled environment, and
witness an aerial rescue demonstration from Banks Hall, among other
engaging events.

Connect with representatives from law enforcement and emergency response
agencies to deepen your understanding of emergency preparedness.
