*Wilderness First Aid*
The Department of Adventure Sports and Expeditionary Studies will host a
SOLO Wilderness First Aid training and certification course November 30
through December 01, 2024. This course is open to SUNY staff, faculty, and
students for a discounted rate and to the general public for $250. Please
spread the word and make the outdoors a safer place.
This is a 16-hour First Aid course "for the outdoor enthusiast or trip
leader who wants basic first aid training for short trips with family,
friends, and outdoor groups. This course meets the American Camp
Association guidelines. The WFA focuses on the basic skills of Response and
Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival
Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. Accidents happen.
People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up,
and it rains. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are
preventable; even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can
worsen things. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference
between a good and bad outcome, and maybe even save a life."

This course can be used to recertify a Wilderness First Responder. A full
72+ hours Wilderness First Responder course, "The industry standard for
professional outdoor guides, ski patrol, and trip leaders, or for
individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for
extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions" will be hosted in late
January/early February 2025.
