Band Blitz Weekend on the E. Glenn Giltz Stage

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2024) - The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music
will be hosting Band Blitz Weekend with events on Friday, Nov. 15 and
Saturday, Nov. 16. Both events begin at 7:30 p.m. at the E. Glenn Giltz
Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.

On Friday, the SUNY Plattsburgh Symphonic Band will perform a concert
titled “Women Composers,” featuring the works of Anne McGinty, Julie
Giroux, and more. The Symphonic Band is composed of both student and
community members, with concerts being performed semesterly. In his program
notes, director Daniel Gordon says “By presenting this program comprised
exclusively of music by women, we do our part to give women composers the
voice that they deserve.”

On Saturday, the SUNY Plattsburgh Jazz Ensemble has prepared a selection of
music for their “Big Band Bop” with songs arranged by Gill Fuller, Mike
Carubia, and other jazz greats. Like the Symphonic Band, the Jazz Ensemble
is an assemblage of students and community, with a performance every
