The Jewish Studies Program is pleased to announce the *Douglas
R. Skopp Creative Competition on the Theme of the Holocaust.* The
competition honors
the late Professor Douglas R. Skopp by recognizing an outstanding student
creation that deals with the ideas and issues surrounding the Holocaust. We
are now accepting submissions for the 2024 award.
The competition is open to current full and part-time students at SUNY
Plattsburgh. Entries may take a wide range of forms, including original
essays, research papers, historical analyses, stories, poems, visual
artworks, musical compositions, theatrical works, and video productions.
They may take a scholarly, artistic, or personal approach to understanding
and engaging with the meanings of the Holocaust.
Submissions will be judged by a multidisciplinary jury of faculty members,
with the winner receiving a monetary award of $250. The award will be
presented in May at the college’s annual Holocaust commemoration, Days of
Remembrance. The award winners will present or perform their creation
during the ceremony, which is held in the Douglas and
Evelyne Skopp Memorial Gallery in Feinberg Library.
Entries will be accepted until 4:00 PM on *Friday, March 21, 2024*.
An entry form and instructions are available in the document below. For
more information, please contact Andrew Buckser, Director of Jewish
Studies, at abuck005 at plattsburgh.edu.
