James Augustus Wilson Scholarship Deadline Extended!

This scholarship was created to honor James Augustus Wilson, Class of 1902.
Mr. Wilson was the first Black/African American student to enroll and
graduate from Plattsburgh Normal School, now known as SUNY Plattsburgh.
This scholarship recognizes and supports diverse students for their
academic achievement and leadership. The scholarship seeks to identify and
recognize students who have demonstrated the academic foundation,
leadership skills and social justice qualities of the late James
Augustus Wilson.
Students should be able to speak to their diverse life experience and how
their experience has shown similar qualities of leadership, academic
achievement, and social justice on the campus of SUNY Plattsburgh or in the
broader community.
To be eligible for the scholarship the student must:
· Be an undergraduate
· Be enrolled full-time (12 credits or more)
· Be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder
· Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
· ** Have ONE combination of the following:
o Faculty/Staff nomination and submit an essay
o Faculty/Staff reference and submit an essay
**A nominee not having both will be considered ineligible and not be
evaluated by the scholarship review committee.

*The nomination due date has been extended to February 18, 2024*. It is
expected that three nominees will be awarded a scholarship valued from $500
to $2500 per person. *The scholarship will be applied toward the spring
2024 semester.* It can also be applied to the fall 2024 semester upon *request
of the student to the Student Financial Services office*.
**Please note that ALL scholarships are to be applied to a semester bill
and are NOT paid out in cash to the student. **
Scholarship recipients are scheduled to be notified in late February.
Please note that the names of winners may be advertised as recipients of
the scholarship and may be asked to write a thank you
letter to the Plattsburgh College Foundation.
