You and your students are invited to take part in the participatory art
project, “Hostile Terrain 94,” which is part of the exhibition “Borders:
Migrations North and South” at the Plattsburgh State Art Museum. The
exhibition closes on March 8th, and we would like to involve as many
students and members of the Plattsburgh community as possible in completing
the participatory art project during February.

You can learn more about Hostile Terrain 94 here:
https://www.undocumentedmigrationproject.org/hostileterrain94. The
installation of this project involves filling out more than 3800 toe tags
with information about migrants who perished crossing the Sonoran desert
and then pinning these tags to a giant map of the locations where their
remains were found. The broader exhibition, which is curated by Dr. Amy
Mountcastle, ties to ongoing research by a group of faculty on the
irregular border crossing at Roxham Road in Champlain, New York, and
includes art, photography, and artifacts related to migrations across the
US-Mexico and US-Canada borders.

Participation may take different forms. A faculty member of the research
team could meet your class at the exhibition and explain the project before
facilitating students to fill out the toe tags. Alternatively, we could
bring the toe tags to your classroom, and students could attend the
exhibition independently.

If you would be interested in involving your students in the project or
would like more information, please email Liz Onasch at
eonas001 at plattsburgh.edu. Thank you.
