 On Sept. 7, Presidential Centers and Foundations across the United States
at the initiative of the George W. Bush Presidential Center issued a joint
statement on Strengthening Our Democracy

This is an unprecedented act on the part of these Centers and Foundations,
since traditionally ex-Presidents do not comment on politics, and
Presidential Centers and Foundations have never done so.

For our first Institute for Ethics in Public Life conversation of the 23-24
academic year, we will be discussing this statement and exploring the
context that inspired such an unprecedented act.

Our special guest for this conversation will be Dr. Courtney Nava,
Assistant Professor of Political Science. Dr. Nava just joined the faculty
at SUNY Plattsburgh this semester, and is a specialist in American Politics
and Political Behavior studying attitudes about subjects such as race,
identity, tolerance, and polarization.

This conversation will be held in person in the Thomas Moran Seminar Room
(Hawkins 233), but you will be able to join the conversation via Zoom (link
below) if you so choose.
