Campus Community:

September is National Preparedness and Campus Fire Safety Month!

Each September, individuals are encouraged to take simple steps to improve
fire safety and to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and
communities. Throughout this month, SUNY Plattsburgh's Emergency Management
will provide you with tools and information on preparing for emergencies
and improving fire safety.

In keeping with the theme of preparedness and fire safety, the following
are two very important campus events scheduled for September:

Save-the-Date:

Campus Emergency Preparedness Day

   -

   When: Wednesday, Sept. 20
   -

   Time: From 11 am - 2 pm
   -

Location: In and around the Angell College Center
   -

Description: Several emergency response organizations will be on campus,
providing emergency preparedness and fire safety tips. Activities include
an obstacle course, fire extinguisher training, a smoke-filled room, a mock
dorm room burn demonstration, and more!

“After the Fire”

   -

   When: Thursday, Sept. 21
   -

   Time: 7 pm – 8:30 pm
   -

Location: Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center
   -

Description: After the Fire is a "True Story of Heroes and Cowards”
inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning story and New York Times bestseller
by Robin Fisher about the arson fire set in a residence hall at Seton Hall
University in January 2000 that killed three students and injured 58
others. Shawn and Alvaro will be here to tell their story.

Begin preparing for emergencies by doing three things:

   1.

Be informed - Know what disasters could affect your area, how to get
emergency alerts, and where you would go if you and your family need to
   evacuate.
   2.

Plan ahead - Make a plan and build an emergency supplies kit
   3.

   Take action – Get involved.

The more you are prepared, the better you can act and minimize panic or
confusion when an emergency occurs. Visit Ready.gov <http://ready.gov/> to
