Tuesday Talks presents Dr. Ned Lecky, Assistant Professor in the Computer
Science Department at SUNY Plattsburgh, speaking on "Artificial
Intelligence and Large Language Models: Starting to Understand How It
Really Works" on *Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 4:30pm* in the Angell
College Center's Cardinal Lounge. Below is an abstract of Dr. Lecky's
presentation.
In this highly accessible and jargon-free discussion of Artificial
Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Large Language Models, Dr. Ned Lecky of
the SUNY Plattsburgh Computer Science Department will demonstrate simple,
easy-to-understand examples of AI and Large Language Model approaches that
will give you insight into how these ultra-hyped technologies actually
work. These examples will kickstart your understanding of how dramatically
different contemporary software "learning" approaches are from the way
we as humans think and learn, helping you to develop insight into where AI
shines and where it is unlikely to be useful.
Ned was a Senior or Principal Engineer and Manager at Amazon, Microsoft,
and Google, and worked at those companies in robotics, computer vision, and
the practical application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
