You and your students are invited to take part in the participatory art
project, “Hostile Terrain 94,” which will be part of the upcoming
exhibition, “Borders: Migrations North and South,” at the Plattsburgh State
Art Museum. The broader exhibition comes from ongoing research by a group
of faculty on the irregular border crossing at Roxham Road in Champlain,
New York and will include art, photography, and artifacts related to
migrations across the US-Mexico and US-Canada borders.
You can learn more about the Hostile Terrain 94 project here:
https://www.undocumentedmigrationproject.org/hostileterrain94. The
installation of this project involves filling out more than 3800 toe tags
with information about migrants who perished crossing the Sonoran desert
and then pinning these tags to a giant map of the locations where their
remains were found.
In addition to visiting the exhibition, we would like to involve as many
SUNY Plattsburgh community members as possible in completing the project
next week, October 2-6. The installation is located in the *Slatkin Study
Room *on the second floor of the Myers Fine Arts building. We will have
open hours during which a faculty member will be available to explain the
project, assist in filling out and pinning toe tags, answer questions, and
engage in discussions with anyone who would like to process their
experience. We invite you to please join us and encourage your students to
participate during the open hours:
Monday (10/2): 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Wednesday (10/4): 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Thursday (10/5): 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Friday (10/6): 10 AM - 11 AM
