Tuesday Talks presents Dr. Connie Shemo, Professor in the History
Department at SUNY Plattsburgh, speaking on "Warriors, Frogs, Snow Queens
and Mermaids: Changing U.S.-China relations through the lens of Disney
Princess Movies" on *Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 4:30pm* in the Angell
College Center's Cardinal Lounge. Below is an abstract of Dr. Shemo's
presentation.

Disney films are a major part of American cultural exports. With the rise
of the "Princess Franchise" in 2005, Disney princess movies have become an
especially important cultural export. This talk will focus on five
particular movies: *Mulan*, *Princess and the Frog*, *Frozen *and the
sequel, *Frozen 2*, and the 2023 *Little Mermaid* and use these movies as
a lens to look at changing U.S. - Chinese relations, and how many in China
engage with U.S. culture. While the focus will be on these movies, I will
also comment on the reception of princess movies in China more generally.
