Dr. Mark Lesser, Assoc. Prof. Environmental Science, SUNY Plattsburgh

Pushing the boundaries: Tree species dynamics at their range margins
*Friday Feb 3rd, **3:30pm. *

*Hudson 106*

Ongoing climate change is generally thought to be causing species
distributions to shift poleward or upslope in response to warming
temperatures. However, for long lived sessile species, such as trees,
migration patterns can be hard to detect and/or may be delayed for decades,
if not longer, due to non-climatic factors (e.g., competition, nutrient and
moisture limitations). This talk will show results from research on tree
species that are either at their latitudinal or elevational range edge in
the Adirondack-Champlain Valley region that demonstrate species, and site,
specific responses to a suite of climate, land-use, and ecological
factors.
If you have any questions regarding the seminar please contact Dr. Mark
Lesser (mless004 at plattsburgh.edu)
