Spring info for the Information Literacy Competency Exam

Dear Faculty,

The *Information Literacy Competency Exam* (a.k.a. the LIB exam) is up and
running for the spring 2023 term.

The exam was revised in 2022 by

   - *Removing the exam pre-registration process** -- *Students now
   self-enroll directly into the exam Moodle site.
   - *Increasing the availability of the exam by several weeks* -- Students can
   take the exam at any time in the windows it is available, day or night.

*Exam Availability*
The exam will be available online in Moodle from *Monday, Jan. 23 to
**Wednesday, Feb.
1*. It will again be available during advising/registration, from
*Monday, April
10 to **Friday, April 28*.

*About the Exam*
Students who already have a passing grade for the LIB course do not need to
take this exam.

   - By passing the exam, students meet the Information Literacy General
   Education/Cardinal Core requirement, but do not receive the credit hour.
   - Students who have a grade of E or W for the LIB course can meet the
   requirement by passing the exam. Note that the exam does not remove or
   replace a letter grade.
   - Students can take the exam more than once, but only once in any
   academic year (August – May).
