Greetings (again) friends and colleagues,

On Wellness Wednesday I encouraged us to consider the role the arts play in
our wellbeing and I provided some resources and links.
Well, sometimes the answer is so close, we may not see it even though it is
right before our very eyes.

I was remiss to not include our very own (and awesome!) on-campus
resources. So, I am deeming this Fix-it Friday.
I would like to add some of our best and most accessible arts resources as
#1 on the list that was provided on Wednesday. Here is it:

Our very own Plattsburgh State Art Museum
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/arts/art-museum/index.html> is a
great place to start and to frequent. The Winkel Courtyard
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/arts/art-museum/winkel-sculpture-courtyard.html>
is one of the most serene art environments on campus. This and the Rockwell
Kent Gallery
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/arts/art-museum/rockwell-kent-collection.html>
are permanent exhibits that everyone can access throughout the academic
year. Likewise, we have a Museum Without Walls
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/arts/art-museum/sculpture-park.html>
program that places original art throughout campus. There are also
fantastic kids arts events offered in Myers throughout the year on the
weekends.

Of course, don't forget to keep an eye on the Plattsburgh's Theatre Calendar
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/arts/theatre-calendar.html>
and Plattsburgh's
Music Events Calendar
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/plattslife/arts/music-calendar.html> as
additional ways to engage with and enjoy the arts.

Lastly, we offer an Art Therapy
<https://www.plattsburgh.edu/programs/art-therapy-minor.html> minor here.
As an art therapist and former adjunct in that program, I just thought I'd
mention it here since it is so relevant to the arts and wellbeing and such
a rare undergrad program offering. Perhaps mention it to your students or
advisees who may be interested 😉

In case you missed Wednesday's Wellness post, it is provided below and
properly amended with our own on-campus gems.

Thank you and have a creative, drama(free), and harmonious weekend,

Kim McCoy Coleman, EAP Coordinator

>From Wellness Wednesday:

Greeting friends and colleagues,

This week for Wellness Wednesday I'd like you to take a moment to think
about the role the arts play in promoting your wellbeing. When was the last
time you created something or discovered a new artist or were moved by an
image, piece of literature, or a poem?

The arts - in any form - can really lift our spirits, calm our nerves, and
encourage divergent thinking about all sorts of problems. They can
communicate or validate our feelings and help us to imagine how things can
be different.

Why not take a minute to explore something new, find a cool arts resource,
sign up for a class, or simply listen to music more often.

Check out these resources and try to spend some time finding (and enjoying)
your flow.

Be well (and be creative),

Kim McCoy Coleman, EAP Coordinator
