Academic spaces are increasingly neurodiverse, but ableist practices and
perspectives continue to marginalize neurodivergent learners. In this
interactive session, we will consider how inherited educational
expectations and dominant mindsets around autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and a
range of additional neurological differences create barriers to student
success. We will contrast those views with the asset-based neurodiversity
paradigm and discuss tangible approaches to affirm and support
neurodivergent learners. The teaching strategies we enact with
neurodivergent students in mind will help us better welcome and reach the
wide variety of learners in our classes.
