Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society, is hosting a
"Read-In" in Celebration of Black History Month with support from Feinberg
Library.

*What is a Read-In?*
The National African- American Read-In (AARI) is a groundbreaking effort to
encourage communities to read together, centering African American books
and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National
Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part
of Black History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million
participants around the world.
Participating in the Read-In is our way to "address the centuries of
silence imposed upon African-American writers and artists" by sharing these
stories with one another.

*How do we participate?*
We will be meeting in the *CVH James Augustus Wilson Commons beginning at
10:00 am* and reading until we are too tired to go on...

*What are the guidelines?*

   - Texts written by African American authors are shared (* this could be
childrens and young adult texts as well as novels, poetry, memoirs, and
   plays).
   - Participants either listen to or provide the readings (*when we are
too tired to read aloud, participants can read silently).
   - A count is taken of who attends, and that count is documented in the
“report card” as a measure of the global reach of this program each year.

ANYONE can join us -- whether from the community or campus. WE want as many
participants, books, and hours reading as we can muster.

****Feinberg librarians* will be joining us in our Read-In. And you can
find books by African-American authors at the *"Featured Collection"* in
the Feinberg Library.
