Forests, Roads and Streams: Riparian Forest Management in the Lake
Champlain Basin

Roughly 80 percent of forest land in The Lake Champlain Basin is privately
owned. Much of this private, forested land is managed for timber harvest
and maple sugaring, necessitating the adoption of best management practices
(BMPs) to reduce environmental impacts, including BMPs for private
road-stream crossings. Therefore, there is a need to better understand how
landowner perspectives influence the management of these private forests
and road crossings. This talk will explore the factors contributing to
forest and forest road BMP adoption in the Lake Champlain Basin using both
quantitative and qualitative methods and using two different theoretical
frameworks: The Transtheoretical Model of Behavioral Change (TTM) and the
Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Strategies for the remote identification
and mapping of private road crossings will also be introduced.

*Friday May 5th, **3:30pm. *
*Hudson 106*

*All seminars are free and open to the public. *
