SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Theatre presents
*The Climate 10-Minute Play Festival*
*with performances in Downtown Plattsburgh Venues *
*in conjunction with First Friday*
Plattsburgh, NY – *T**he SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Theatre* presents *The
Climate 10-Minute Play Festival* located at specialized venues
throughout *Downtown
Plattsburgh* on *Friday, May 5, 2023*.
The festival is a one-night only event, and includes eight plays focused on
climate change performed in four different downtown venues.
The festival runs from 5pm to 8pm on Friday, May 5, and will be performed
at the following venues:
- The Strand Center for the Arts Gallery, 23 Brinkerhoff Street
- Old Soul Design Shop, 124 Margaret Street
- Chapter One Coffee & Tea, 30 City Hall Place
- Lake City Coworking, 26 City Hall Place
The Climate Play Festival brings theatre into new and different spaces and
also brings people into new spaces to experience art.
The plays are performed in repertory in all four spaces - 2 plays in each
space. Audiences can watch one or two or all eight between 5-8pm, with the
first performances starting at 5pm. A new play every 20-30 minutes,
depending on the venue.
Shawna Mefferd Kelty, Theatre department chair and festival director had
this to say, “Our goals of our festival is to raise awareness about climate
change; to celebrate a diverse group of playwrights, stories, perspectives,
and lived experiences; and to continue to strengthen the creative community
here in Plattsburgh. There are so many people from all over our campus and
our community who are helping bring this festival to fruition.
All of the plays focus on climate change - not just the facts of climate
change, but how we are experiencing it, how it impacts the lives of people
and all of earth's inhabitants and neighbors. Theatre is a space to create
empathy and understanding. It's a space to start conversations and
connections.”
The Climate Play Festival is a collaboration between the Department of
Theatre and First Friday, "a downtown community event to showcase the art,
music, food, and vibrancy of our downtown businesses."
*Free performances every 30 minutes! Open to the public! *
*Enjoy theatre in downtown Plattsburgh!*
