Visual Artist Series Lecture by Sculptor, Derek Toomes

Derek Toomes, Sculptor, will give a presentation via Zoom this evening,
Tuesday, April 11, at 7:00 p.m.  (Please note that the poster indicated
that this would be an in-person presentation but due to unforeseen
circumstances it will be on Zoom).  In his art Mr. Toomes is drawn to the
iconic imagery of popular culture, as he is equally interested in our
societal location as a culture inundated by imagery. His sourcing as well
as appropriation of images allows Derek to create work that is
aesthetically and anthropologically situated within culture, while also
commenting on that culture. His images, videos, kinetic objects, and
installations are both: self aware, and art aware, as they operate as
contemporary atavistic viewing experiences. He is based in Greensboro and
Raleigh, NC  is currently an assistant professor in the Department of
Interior Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Please note that the Zoom invitation says the beginning time is 6:30 but it
actually begins at 7:00.  This gives the artist 30 minutes to prepare their
presentation.  Thank you for your attention to this.
