THURSDAY, 4/20 Kasennisaks: I'm Looking for a Name (A Mohawk Storytelling Performance)

The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Theatre and the Truth, Racial Healing,
and Transformation (TRHT) Campus Center in partnership with the Tsi
ietsenhtha/Plattsburgh Arts Project and the Clinton County Historical
Association present* Kasennisaks: I’m Looking for a Name (A Mohawk Woman’s
Story of Survival) *at *Krinovitz Recital Hall in Hawkins Hall.*

WHEN: *Thursday, April 20 at 7 pm *with a TRHT Moderated Q&A following the
show at 8 p.m.

TRHT will also host an Rx Racial Healing Circle on Thursday, April 20th at
5 pm in The H.U.B. (1st Floor of the Angell College Center) before the
performance. The Healing Circle topic will be connecting as a community and
understanding the impacts of intergenerational trauma. All are welcome
(students, staff, faculty, and community members).

*This storytelling performance co-created with director Julia Devine
features Emily Kasennisaks Stacey* sharing her stories of survival — as a
Mohawk woman growing up in Plattsburgh and as a descendant of residential
school survivors and intergenerational trauma. Emily will share personal
and family story fragments. Some are sad; others are filled with love.
Emily’s performance will weave together these stories with projections and
a Native drum with minimal props and set. Audience members will receive
some gifts from nature that they can hold during the performance for
comfort and grounding. Trigger warning: this piece does discuss murder of
missing women and abuse in the residential schools.
