The first colloquoy of Fall semester from the Institute for Ethics in
Public Life will be held in the Thomas Moran Seminar Room (Hawkins 233)
starting at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 7. We will be having an informal
discussion on "citizenship in an age of political and social turmoil",
led/moderated by the interim Director of the Institute, Dr. Daniel Lake.

To say the least, we live in turbulent times. In the United States alone we
have seen several significant social and political movements arise since
2000 including the Tea Party Movement, Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives
Matter, a renewed women's rights movement, and the various groups that make
up the alt-right, to name a few. This social and political ferment is a
widespread phenomenon, and it is both caused by and contributes to
phenomena like political polarization and political violence. When this is
our world, what does it mean to be a citizen?
