As we all head into course advising & registration season, please join us
for a Next in Advising double feature, Fri Oct 21, 9am and 10am.
(Though geared to an academic advisor audience, if you work with students
in any capacity or role, the material applies, and *you are most welcome*
to attend and participate in one or both. We'd enjoy seeing you.)
Cultivate Student Belonging, Connection, and Success through
Relationship-Rich Advising Practices, 9-9:50am, Zoom meeting.
In Relationship-Rich Education: How Human Connections Drive Success in
College (2020), authors Peter Felten & Leo Lambert define and describe the
makings of a culture of relationship richness–one that holds building
meaningful relationships as a campus priority. Relationship-richness that
perfuses all domains of a college campus enables students to create a web
of significant connections with peers, faculty, and staff. Advisor–advisee
relationships are powerful sites for this work. We can contribute much to a
student’s feeling of genuine welcome and deep care, and their ability to
learn, persist, and thrive.
Three of our faculty colleagues are joining me to share insights from our
spring 2022 CTE book club:
-
Wanda Carroll, School of Business & Economics
-
Kim McCoy Coleman, School of Education, Health & Human Services
-
Michelle Ouellette, School of Arts & Sciences
We will each share what relationship-rich education ideas meant the most to
us and how we have applied awareness or strategies to enhance
relationship-rich advising practices. The session concludes with
participant Q&A. The session will be recorded.
AAA Help (Ask Advising Anything), 10-10:50am, Zoom meeting.
Immediately following the Relationship-Rich Advising Practices session,
stay or join the Zoom at 10am for an unscripted, open Q&A to address any
need for resource guidance or a scenario that is on your mind (that reveals
no FERPA-protected information) on the road to course advisement
period. Special
guest, Kerry Lubold, Interim Director of Student Financial Services, will
join for the first 15 minutes of our Q&A to answer financial aid questions
for advisors so we’re well informed for course advisement period.
Any questions, email advise at plattsburgh.edu. I look forward to seeing you.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
