Alterations: A Symphonic Band Concert

At E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall


Plattsburgh, NY – The SUNY Plattsburgh Symphonic Band, under the direction
of Daniel Gordon, will present its Fall 2022 concert on Friday, December 2
at 7:30 pm in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium. The concert is free and open to
the public.

The program is entitled, “Alterations,” with every work on the program
having undergone some type of musical alteration: Mozart’s Marriage of
Figaro Overture is a transcription from its original for orchestra; Frank
Erikson’s Salvation Is Created is a chorale prelude based on a chorale by
Pavel Tchesnokov; Bill Pfaff’s Suite of Incidental Music to Fuddy Meers is
an orchestration of music originally composed for electronic sounds;
Richard Wagner’s Trauersinfonie is based on themes from Carl Maria von
Weber’s opera Euryanthe; and John Barnes Chance’s Variations on a Korean
Folksong is a set of variations on a melody.

Debuting as part of the program is the Plattsburgh Community Clarinet
Choir, which was founded in 2022 by SUNY Plattsburgh music alumna Margali
Grenier. After graduating in 2010, Margali has been involved with many
local musical groups such as the Adirondack Wind Ensemble, Strawhatters
Community Band, Milton Community Band, and various Pit Orchestras. The
Plattsburgh Community Clarinet Choir was established to make Chamber Music
more accessible to local musicians. This group currently consists of
students, alumni, and community members, and is free to join and open to
the public.

Alterations: A Symphonic Band Concert takes place on Friday, December 2 at
7:30 pm in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, within Hawkins Hall. This event
