The CEES Seminar Series presents:
Dr. Kirsten Coe, Assistant Professor of Biology, Middlebury College
*The secret life of moss: linking physiology to ecosystem function*
*Friday Nov 4th, **3:30pm. *
*Hudson 106*
Mosses are keystone organisms across terrestrial systems, from boreal
forests to peatlands to deserts (yes, you heard me right, deserts!), in
which they help regulate biogeochemistry in the form of soil
thermoregulation, hydrology, and nutrient cycling. But how do these tiny
plants deal with environmental stress, and how might they fare under global
change? This seminar will explore these questions, presenting case studies
from research in the desert southwest. I’ll show results from a climate
manipulation experiment from the Colorado Plateau as well as ongoing work
in my lab on a diverse clade of desert mosses.
If you have any questions regarding the seminar please contact Dr. Mark
