The Student Association is hosting an annual Commemorative Ceremony marking
the 52nd Anniversary of the Kent State and Jackson State University
shootings

Thursday, May 12th

12:15 pm

Kehoe Front Lawn

In the 1960’s, America experienced some of its greatest periods of tension
and upheaval. African Americans began demanding equality during the Civil
Rights Movement. Inspired by their efforts, women took strides to gain
their own equality. In the midst of all this tension, America plunged into
war abroad.

Citizens quickly began to protest and in May of 1970 these protests were
silenced with violence. Students at Kent State were protesting the war
efforts of the United States in Cambodia when they were violently put to
rest. Just a few days later at Jackson State, students were rallying to
protest racism. In both events students were silenced by weaponry.

The efforts of these students will forever be remembered.

Please join the Student Association in honoring those students who lost
their lives at these events.
