Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir 2022 Spring Finale

The PLATTSBURGH STATE GOSPEL CHOIR (PSGC) will host its 2022 Spring Finale
Concert featuring "The Voices of Faith” of Plattsburgh, NY, on SATURDAY,
APRIL 2nd, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Hartman Theatre, Myers
Fine Arts Building, 25 Rugar Street, Plattsburgh, New York. PSGC’s concert
will feature Contemporary Gospel, Traditional Gospel, Spirituals of African
American culture and Inspirational Ballads. The choir will present works by
T.D. Jakes, Richard Smallwood, Vincent Bohanan, Luther Barnes, James
Cleveland and Hezekiah Walker, as well as an original composition, “Into
the House”, which they performed at NYC’s Lincoln Center in 2017. PSGC’s
Praise Dancers, led by senior Danielle D. Criss, will grace the stage with
a spirit-filled liturgical selection.

The concert will be hosted by Dr. Dexter Criss, Professor of Chemistry and
Artistic Director of PSGC. Additionally, several gospel choir alumni will
join the choir on some selections, such as Ms. Annie Lecompte, (‘15),
soulfully leading that GMWA classic, “So You Would Know” written by Al
Hobbs. New student soloists like Nicole Massaro, Violet Mawere and Jerrique
Ortiz will grace the stage in their gospel choir debuts along with veteran
soloists, Brett Carpenter (’99), Barbara Criss ('11" and Gina Lindsey, will
once again “Bring It, Y’all”! This concert will also feature SUNY
Plattsburgh's Alumni Band lead by Latin-Percussionist Josue De Luna Hilario
(’20). The tight harmonic melodies that will be displayed in this concert
will transport you to a simpler time and place. Get ready for this
interactive event that will have you singing, dancing and rejoicing!

SPECIAL GUEST:

*The Voices of Faith (VOF)* of Plattsburgh, NY, is a soulful quartet
featuring amazing vocalists performing African-American Spirituals of the
south! The VOF have performed locally in Plattsburgh, Lake Placid and
Burlington, and as far away as Memphis (TN), Little Rock and Stuttgart
(AR), and Trinidad.

About the PLATTSBURGH STATE GOSPEL CHOIR:

Under the artistic leadership of Dexter L. Criss, Ph.D., the choir has
traveled internationally to Japan, St. Martin/Maarten, Toronto, Montreal,
Trinidad and Tobago where they gave a private performance for President
Anthony Carmona and staff. They have also performed in Chicago (IL), Boston
(MA), Washington DC., New Jersey, Pittsburgh (PA), Indiana (PA), New York
City, Memphis (TN), Stuttgart and Little Rock (AR) . The choir has shared
the stage with Darius Brooks, Myra Flynn, Lyle Lovett, Daisy Jopling, and
Sheila Raye Charles, to name a few. With 15-20 performances a year, PSGC is
busy performing on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus , at churches, festival
events, workshops, weddings, memorials, and community events. Andrea D.
Ogle (’09), a UVM graduate in Early Childhood Special Education and SUNY
Plattsburgh alum, serves as Associate Artistic Director and Choreographer.
Alexander Malsan (’13), a K-12 Music/Chorus Education Teacher, serves as
the choir’s Vocal Coach, and Rosinda Anthony (’08, ’11) serves as the
choir’s Advisor.

This event is open to the public and is co-sponsored in part by Community
Bank, Bailey Ford, Island Vybz, Butterflies Bring Hope, the SUNY
Plattsburgh Department of Music and the SUNY Plattsburgh Student Association.
