Greetings:
On behalf of Dr. Christopher Kirkey, the Institute for Québec Studies at
SUNY Plattsburgh invites you to the virtual Distinguished Quebec Address
featuring Dr. Daniel Béland, Director of the McGill Institute for the Study
of Canada.
Presentation Title:
*“Nationalism, Pandemic Management, and Electoral Politics in Quebec”*
Presentation Date and Time:
*Wednesday, March 9, 2022*
*2:00 p.m.*
Overview:
Ahead of Quebec’s provincial elections scheduled for early October, this
presentation discusses the actions, discourses, and strategies of François
Legault’s Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) government through three
complementary lens: the evolution of nationalism, the management of the
COVID-19 pandemic, and the overall electoral positioning of the CAQ on key
policy issues vis-a-vis other provincial political parties. The
presentation stresses the factors that explain the enduring popularity of
Premier Legault and the challenges his government faces just months ahead
of the next provincial elections.
