In celebration of Black History Month, Africana Studies presents:
*Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)*
Film Screening and Discussion
Tuesday, February 22 at 7:00 PM in Yokum 206
Directed by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, *Summer of Soul* (2021) focuses on
the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, an event that lasted six weeks and
featured many famous performers, including Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, and
Sly & the Family Stone. The film, which includes original footage of the
festival, explores the cultural, social, and political significance of the
event as well as why the footage never aired.
We hope you will join us for the film and stay for a discussion afterward.
If you have further questions about the event, please contact Dr. Liz
Onasch (Africana Studies program coordinator), Dr. John McMahon, or Dr.
Tracie Guzzio.
