Reminder today beginning at 10:00 am in the Champlain Valley Hall — James
Augustus Wilson Commons…

*Read-In in Honor of Black History Month *
Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society, is hosting a "Read-In" in
Celebration of Black History Month. And we will also be celebrating the
birthday of the writer, Toni Morrison.

What is a Read-In?
The National African American Read-In (AARI) is a groundbreaking effort to
encourage communities to read together, centering on African American books
and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National
Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black
History Month. This initiative has reached more than 6 million participants
around the world.

Participating in the Read-In is our way to "address the centuries of
silence imposed upon African-American writers and artists" by sharing their
stories with one another.

How do we participate?
We will be meeting in the *CVH James Augustus Wilson Commons beginning at
10:00 am* and reading until we are too tired to go on...

Here are the rules...

   - Texts written by African American authors are shared (and read aloud)
   - Participants either listen to or provide the readings.
   - A count is taken of who attends, and that count is documented in the
“report card” as a measure of the global reach of this program each year.

We will also take an hour starting at 3:00 to read and discuss the work of
our Visiting Writer Randall Horton. (Who will be coming to campus on
Thursday, Feb. 25).

Please drop by and read and/or listen. Bring your favorite title or writer
*(we will also have some titles on hand). And join us for the discussion at
3:00 -- afterwards, we will continue reading. We are hoping to make this an
annual event -- and would love your support!

Masks are still required at this on-campus event.

If you have questions about participating in this event, please contact Dr.
Tracie Guzzio, advisor of Sigma Tau Delta.
