The horseshoe-shaped map pattern of the Crescent Formation basalt in the
mountains of Olympic National Park in NW Washington State is an iconic
feature. Despite decades of research, how it formed is still a topic of
debate. In this talk, I present field and microscale evidence that sheds
new light on that debate.
