The Institute for Ethics in Public Life will be hosting an upcoming
international conference about issues concerning the medicalization of
pregnancy and birth.

The conference will take place on May 4, 2022 over Zoom. The conference
begins at 8 a.m. and online sessions will stream throughout the day.

Join health science experts, social justice advocates, and educators from
around the world in this international gathering that will examine the
maternal healthcare system and the role birth centers and midwives/doulas
are playing in changing the outlook and outcomes for women and men across
the globe.

Tickets are $25 for attendees, which includes a coupon for 50 percent off
of the cost of viewing the documentary Birth Time: the Documentary (rated M
for mature audiences) and access to recorded sessions after the conference
ends.

There will be a live screening of the documentary at 6 p.m. in Yokum
Lecture Hall 200, followed immediately by remarks by anthropology faculty
member Gloria Bobbie, who will then lead an hour-long colloquy about the
documentary. Dr. Jonathan Slater, director of the Ethics Institute will
moderate the colloquy, which will involve the participation of students and
faculty. The colloquy is free of charge and open to all members of the SUNY
Plattsburgh community. Masks/face coverings will be required for this event.
