SUNY Plattsburgh’s commemoration of the Holocaust
The Jewish Studies Program invites you to Days of Remembrance at 5 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at the Douglas and Evelyne Skopp Holocaust
Memorial Gallery in Feinberg Library.
The opening reflection will be offered by Ms. Mary Skillan, Director of
Campus Ministry at St. John XXIII Newman Center, and followed by
acknowledgments and a welcome by Dr. Jonathan Slater, director of the
Jewish Studies Program.
Students Laman Hanifayeva and Kelsey Rambach – recipients of the Douglas R.
Skopp Creative Competition on the Theme of the Holocaust – will be speaking
about their winning entries, which will be on display in Feinberg Library.
The faculty speaker will be Dr. Monica Ciobanu, a member of SUNY
Plattsburgh’s criminal justice faculty and 2021-2022 Charles E. Scheidt
Faculty Fellow in Atrocity Prevention at SUNY Binghamton. The theme of Dr.
Ciobanu’s remarks will be “Responses to mass atrocities: Reflections on
Ukraine.”
The closing reflection will be delivered by Rabbi David Kominsky of Temple
Beth Israel of Plattsburgh.
Days of Remembrance is free of charge and open to members of the SUNY
Plattsburgh community and the general public. Masks/face coverings are
required for this event.
The Douglas R. Skopp Creative Competition on the Theme of the Holocaust is
made possible by generous alumni gifts to the Plattsburgh College
Foundation. The work of the Jewish Studies Program is supported by generous
gifts to the Plattsburgh College Foundation. Additional assistance is
provided by the School of Arts and Sciences. Technical assistance is
furnished by Feinberg Library.
