Return of the Kooky Koncert

On Friday, April 22, 2022, the SUNY Plattsburgh Symphonic Band, under the
direction of Daniel Gordon, will perform a “Return of the Kooky Koncert” at
7:30 pm in Giltz Auditorium on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The kooky theme
is a way to bring us all a little bit of cheer during these dark
times. Featured
are Harold Walters’ Instant Concert, which includes snippets of over 30
well-known works; PDQ Bach’s Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and
Percussion, in which players knock over instruments, gargle, and play on
mouthpieces alone; Leroy Anderson’s The Typewriter, featuring Music
Department Administrative Assistant Jennifer Matott as typewriter soloist;
David Lovrien’s Minor Adjustments, a medley of Christmas carols all
transposed to a minor key; and Eric Whitacre’s Godzilla Eats Las Vegas!,
possibly the king of kooky compositions. The concert is free and open to
the public.
