Tuesday Reflections presents Dr. Jean-Francois Godbout, Distinguished
Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Québec Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh,
speaking on "The Institutional Legacies of the French Colonial Regime in
North America" *tomorrow, April 12, 2022 at 4:30pm* in the Angell College
Center's Cardinal Lounge. Below is an abstract of Dr. Godbout's
presentation.

This presentation will discuss the preliminary results of three large-scale
data analysis projects focused on the descendants of French colonial
settlers in the United States. The presentation will address some of the
challenges in finding relevant data sources to analyze their political
attitudes and socioeconomic development. Three different types of data will
be explored: (1) political contributions through public records; (2)
partisanship through fifty-six surveys conducted by Harris Polls during the
1960s; and (3) electoral returns through county-level census measures
between 1900-2000.

Jean-Francois Godbout is a Professor of Political Science at the Université
de Montréal. His research focuses on political institutions and democratic
processes. He is the author of the book "Lost on Division: Party Unity in
the Canadian Parliament" and several other articles related to the study of
legislative behaviour and elections. As the Fulbright Canada Research Chair
in Québec Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh, he is currently studying the
institutional legacies of the French colonial regime in North America. You
