Dear Campus Community,

On Wednesday April 13, 2022, at 2:00 pm the Center for the Study of Canada
at SUNY Plattsburgh cordially invites you to attend a virtual presentation
offered by Dr. Jeanne Carey Ingle, Associate Professor, Department of
Elementary and Early Childhood Education Bridgewater State University,
“International Inclusion: Multiculturalism and Multilingualism in K-8
Classrooms, Learning from Toronto’s Success”.

In 2019, Dr. Jeanne Carey Ingle observed and interviewed classroom
teachers, principals, and English Language Learner (ELL) staff in the
Toronto District School Board to explore the programs and strategies being
used to successfully close the opportunity gap between ELLs and native
English speakers. A three-pronged approach to educating ELL children
emerged from this work that was inclusive, culturally respectful and
acknowledging of systemic inequities in the education system. This
presentation is both grounded in theory and presented through the lens of
an experienced educator seeking to understand the why and the how of
Toronto’s success.
