Tuesday Reflections presents Dr. Donald Slish, Professor in the Biology
Department, speaking on "The Neurobiology of Opiate Addiction" on Tuesday,
September 14, 2021 at 4:30pm in the Cardinal Lounge- Angell College
Center. Below is an abstract of Dr. Slish's presentation.
How does addiction to opiates happen? Aside from the psychological and
sociological explanations, our neurobiology predisposes us to repeat
extremely pleasurable experiences. This talk will discuss the role of the
limbic system in the process of addiction, from the level of the
neurotransmitters to changes in the wiring of the brain that lead to this
destructive behavior.
